By interpreting the Old Testament texts
Christologically, the Church assigns to them a meaning entirely different from
the meaning the same texts have for the Synagogue. With this new meaning, the
Church incorporates the books of the Old Testament into her own Holy Scriptures
and now considers them part of her own tradition. In this way, the Church at
the same time legitimates it own right, as the “new Israel”, to be the heir to
God’s promises in place of the
Synagogue.
