The Old Testament in the Orthodox Tradition

By interpreting the Old Testament texts Christologically, the Church assigns to them a meaning entirely different from the meaning the same texts have for the Synagogue. With this new meaning, the Church incorporates the books of the Old Testament into her own Holy Scriptures and now considers them part of her own tradition. In this way, the Church at the same time legitimates it own right, as the “new Israel”, to be the heir to God’s  promises in place of the Synagogue.
